flydubai has officially launched operations to Syria, becoming the first UAE carrier to touch down in Damascus since the suspension of flights nearly 12 years ago.
The airline’s inaugural flight landed at Damascus International Airport (DAM) on June 1, greeted with a traditional water cannon salute. This historic landing marks the beginning of daily flights between Dubai and the Syrian capital.
Commenting on the milestone, His Excellency Hassan Ahmed Al Shehhi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Syrian Arab Republic, said:
“We are pleased to witness the resumption of flydubai’s operations to Syria. This development reflects the strong and longstanding ties between our two countries and highlights the UAE’s ongoing commitment to fostering regional and international air connectivity. The return of flydubai is not only a sign of growing bilateral cooperation but also a step toward delivering quality services to the Syrian people and meeting their travel needs. It reinforces the UAE’s unwavering support for Syria’s stability and progress.”
flydubai’s Chief Commercial Officer, Hamad Obaidalla, expressed optimism about the renewed connection:
“We are proud to offer direct flights to Syria once again. Damascus holds a key cultural and historical position in the region, and reestablishing this route will support the free movement of people, goods, and ideas between the UAE and Syria. This route represents another step forward in flydubai’s commitment to regional connectivity and development.”
